Transforming Places Into Art Spaces

Motor City (Detroit) is known for Motown and music...singers from this area are often exptected to sing well. New York is the metropolis for many aspiring acts as is LA. Where do you think the talented ones are? Is there one place in particular that gets overlooked?

Even though it's got a legacy with Stax Records, Memphis is extremely overlooked when it comes to talent. But the reason for this is two-fold; the city has both a negative image externally and internally.

Mornin Kamaria! who are some artists we should be hipped to from Memphis?

Talent is everywhere...but people should def take a second look at DC.

There's talent all over, I believe. It's just getting that talent seen on the surface, that's the issue...

It's all about access to exposure. Some just aren't able to break out of the local scene, or even establish a scene locally. Whether it's music, film, or art...you need a way of getting the word out that you exist, ans that you're creating quality work.

That's just my opinion.....

All real talent is unsigned, Period! No matter where they are.

I agree with you for the most part on this statement....
The best talent are unsigned, afraid of success or suffering from lack of support, pride/ego or depression. I agree with the saying "Shit rises to the top" no matter what industry it is.

DC is repeatedly overlooked. There are many talented artists who had to leave DC to get recognition. i.e. Marvin Gaye, Duke Ellington, Roberta Flack, J. Holiday :-)

VA is always overlooked. There is a lot of talent here.
