About the Festival

The seeds for this network were planted in October 2007. The formation of this event was simple: to combat the lack of Black-owned media resources in the city of Richmond, Virginia. A plan was put together to combat this void that existed, not only in this particular city, but is being lost in EVERY Black community, little by little. Black Newspapers are folding, Black bookstores are closing their doors at an alarming rate, and Black magazines are being shoved to the wayside.

The first ever Black CapaCity Literary Arts Festival, presented by the Richmond division of the Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA), was held on April 19, 2008 at the Nubian Village Academy & Cultural Center, Richmond's premier independent Black school, and the state's ONLY existing independent Black school. The goals and purpose for the festival were simple:

1) To feature the works of African-descended authors, publishers, and distributors to the Black masses....
2) To connect aspiring writers with those that are already in that field....
3) To create a networking opportunity for those already in the field among themselves.

Kristen Smith loves to work with children and her life-long dream of opening her own childcare center has finally come true. Everything couldn’t be more perfect until her high school sweetheart walks through front door with his son in tow. Randy Stroud was the "one" that she has never gotten over. She has never understood why he’d ended their relationship but it was obvious that he’d moved and she was more than willing to pretend that she had.

Zulu Mech 1 debut at Book Expo America 5/30/09
Time: May 30, 2009 from 2pm to 4pm
Location: Jacob Javits Center NY, New York
Organized By: Gregory Walker/aka Brother G

Event Description:

Wesley Snipes To Introduce New Sci-fi Franchise “Zulu Mech 1” At The African American Pavilion During Book Expo America 2009.

New York, NY - March 4, 2009 - Wesley Snipes, the internationally acclaimed star of the “Blade” movie series, is set to introduce Zulu Mech 1, a breakthrough science fiction franchise for which he serves as producer, at the African American Pavilion during this year's Book Expo America at New York's Jacob Javits Center.

Snipes will be on hand along with Zulu Mech 1 co-creators Mshindo I and Brother G, award winning author of the “Shades Of Memnon” epic adventure series on May 30 at 2:00 pm. on the African American Pavilion stage. After an introduction by co-producers Snipes, Mshindo and Bro. G, the BEA audience will be treated to the debut of the Zulu Mech 1 animated adventures series.

“I think the world will be just as pleased as I was when Brother G and Mshindo brought this ground-breaking adventure series to my attention,” said Snipes. “Everybody knows I love sci-fi and there is really nothing like it on the market. Zulu Mech 1 as written by Brother G and illustrated by the amazing Mshindo can easily stand next to other epics like Star Wars on the strength of the story telling alone. But when you consider that it brings a fresh, untapped perspective to scifi, that really makes it hot! We expect ZM1 to be the hottest franchise around.”
