I grew up listening to his music, as a little girl I had huge crush on him (smile). As an adult his music touched me in so many different -- sometimes inspiring me, like "Man in Mirror." At others I would hear a certain song by Mike and feel like ...

IMMORTAL: A science fiction novel by Valjeanne Jeffers

HER DREAMS ARE TERRIFYING. In the year of our One 3075, Tundra has been at peace for 400 years. There is no racism, poverty or war. Karla is a young Indigo woman working as a successful healer. Yet she is tormented by lucid and erotic dreams. Dreams in which she is IMMORTAL. Two men emerge from these phantasms: the first a Copper shape shifter and the other a demon more dead than alive. But when this creature appears in her apartment Karla realizes they share a lust that may one day consume her. HIS WILL UNLOCK A MYSTERY. Joseph has always dreamt of becoming an artist, warrior...and a werewolf. Now he's dreaming of a sorceress who commands that he leave his homeland. TOGETHER THEY WILL JOURNEY TO THE EDGE OF TIME...To a nightmarish world of revolution and magic. But will they save Tundra or perish in its destruction?

Mr. Charlie's Blues

Contemptuous of my Blackness
your eyes naked hatred
makes me feel unclean, powerless
undeserved bile spewed, evokes visions
of strange fruit, archetypes of dusky women
genitalia shredded, torn

he got to take sick and die
one of these days

Bodies hammered in brimstone
live in your gaze, the field changed
but players yet in place
our nation, kingdom of cages
my pain, how different from my
red, brown brothers and sisters
victims of global colonialism?
Genocide by any other name means death

he go… Continue

Down Home Ecstasy

(In tribute to Muddy Waters)

Listen to the Blues
Visualize
Charcoal black sweet, sweat sinews
Broad, powerful

Sunset of smudged peach,
purple and orange
Honeysuckle
Fireflies
Cotton dresses

Brother testify with a harmonica
Make it preach
Baby, do your thing

Boss man’s gone
Now, here is love and rhythm
Here is pathos in wailing song

A woman lounges
A child’s head in her lap

Heads thrown back
Spines arched and proud

Listen:
Can’t you hear
Song give birth?
Can’t you hear that cry
Like… Continue

My Best Day

Summer
we walk the concrete
Me, Sukie, and Laconya
with dusty feet
midriff tops
cutoff shorts

Past knee-high grass
purple and fuchsia wildflowers
june bugs
Liberate blackberries from the vine
--"Don't worry 'bout no snakes."

Join a gathering of elders
eighteen to twenty-five
a lean ebony sapling
grins white and gold
He shares his forty with us
Another, watermelon

The sun tucks itself in
In youthful innocence
we await tomorrow

Do it all over again.

I know that feeling. Be good to you, and it will flow. You've done alot so far, and writing in a series can be pressureful. You're a very adept writer. I'm glad you and your muse got to talk. lol.
I had a hardtime writing Greenbone (a novella in the Maji Omnibus), even though I knew exactly where the story was going. I was amazed at how difficult it was for me to focus. Finishing it, I realized my voice had grown.
Sometimes that may be the cause of the strain in writing periods. In a process of expansion the flow can get funny for awhile, but the end result is always bigger and brighter than before if we keep moving.

You're definitely one of the adept authors in Sci-fi, with conscious symbolisms embedded in your stories no less. I applaud you.

Much Respect and Love, Sistar Jeffers
