We are recruiting artists and poets for this great effort to support solidarity among immigrant and non-immigrant communities. Performing artists will have an opportunity to sell their music at this event.

We are writing to invite your organization to participate in "Together We Stand: A Call for Peace and Unity," a festival that will celebrate the multicultural and multinational heritage of the Washington D.C. metro area. The festival will take place outdoors at Takoma Recreation Center, at the corner of 4th and Van Buren St. NW, Washington D.C., between 1 and 6 PM on Sunday, October 5.

In much of the nation, policies that promote division and mistrust among non-immigrant and immigrant groups are gaining traction, fueling hostile debates over who deserves to live here and who does not. Recent immigration raids in particular have terrorized families and disrupted the fabric of entire communities. This divisive rhetoric has also presented a challenge to organizing workers, allowing employers to undermine the rights of all working class people, both immigrant and non-immigrant. Here in the nation's capital, a group of local organizations has come together to organize a celebration that sends a unifying message: "Together We Stand: A Call for Peace and Unity." The festival will celebrate our communities' diversity and call for an end to immigration raids that promote fear and division amongst us.

This will be a family-oriented festival that features a diverse group of live music and dance performances as well as a display of art photography by various local artists. The Festival will also host information tables on safety, health, housing, youth programs, immigration, and services from organizations in the D.C. metro area.

Sponsors: CASA of Maryland, Tenants and Workers United, Legal Aid Justice Center, DC Jobs with Justice, Carecen, the Sanctuary Interfaith Network of Washington DC, the National Day Laborer Organizing Network, Liberated Muse Productions
