"That is the true genius of America...that America can change."
No truer words were said by Barack Obama at 12:11am ET this morning of Novembe r 5 when he made his speech after winning the presidential election. I listened with a changed heart.
I came into today's election with a renewed spirit that I had not had earlier this year. Earlier this year, I grappled with what Obama's candidacy meant for me as I thought of my own history being raised with an idea of consciousness which was defined by color, ethnicity and seperatism.
As late as last week, I still felt cynicism with the idea of a Black man really making true change. But, in my musings, I realize that a Black president does not signify anything different other than the power that we as a whole country have as a unified front...a unified front that is working toward the goal of true unity. Yes, there will be challenges and some level of uncomfortability as our nation-- which has never addressed race head-on- enters this new age, but that is what we do as spiritual beings in human form...we learn to adapt and grow as our boundaries shift and stretch.
God bless America. God Bless.
