Liberated Muse Arts Group

Transforming Spaces Into Arts Places

Tribute to the Greats (50 min)

Since 2014, Liberated Muse Arts Group has presented tribute shows to late great African-American figures in entertainment and social justice. The tribute to Maya Angelou that was conceived and presented immediately after the passing of the great poet and national figure was commissioned by the ArtsAllNightDC festival and the Baltimore Book Festival in 2014. In 2015, after the passing of the phenomenal actress and social justice activist Ruby Dee, Liberated Muse began touring  a show that honored her as well. This show, A tribute to Ruby Dee and Maya Angelou,  was presented to audiences at the Oxon Hill Public Library, Artscape Festival and colleges, festivals and events throughout Maryland. In 2015, Liberated Muse created a tribute set to honor the late Gil Scott-Heron which was presented in the DC Poetry Festival at the Carter Baron Amphitheater in Washington DC. The performance was heralded in the Washington Informer newspaper. In 2017, a tribute show titled, "Walk down Poetry Lane" was created to tribute the work of Lucille Clifton, Gwendolyn Brooks and other African-American Women writers.

Liberated Muse Arts Group tribute shows are a fusion on theatre, musical performance and poetry that comes alive as each member of the troupe brings an element of artistry that ignites the stage whether individually or as an ensemble. The tribute shows present work both from the person/people who are honored in the show and original work created by each troupe member individually or as a collective.
